Life extension is the most sustainable solution
SIGRA's business model is inherently sustainable. When we rehabilitate a pipe instead of replacing it, we save steel, reduce transport, eliminate waste and cut CO₂ emissions. Not as an add-on — but as the core of what we do.
Sustainability isn't an add-on — it's the business model
SIGRA doesn't build sustainability as a separate program. We are a rehabilitation company — and rehabilitation is by definition more sustainable than replacement. Every pipe we renew instead of replacing means less steel produced, fewer helicopter trips, a shorter construction period and a lower total CO₂ footprint.
The same applies to GRP and GRE: materials that last 30–50 years in corrosive environments where steel lasts 15–20 years. And for electric vessels: GRP that is 30–40% lighter than aluminium delivers a direct gain in battery range and climate footprint per passenger-kilometre.
Documented sustainability gains
Six concrete sustainability gains
Reduced steel consumption through rehabilitation
Internal rehabilitation reuses existing pipe infrastructure. Compared with full pipe replacement, we save steel, reduce hot work, eliminate waste and deliver a shorter construction period.
Circular economy — cathode plates in Odda
OP Industriservice and Boliden Odda operate a closed material flow: cathode plates are produced, used and recycled in Odda. No international transport, full traceability and a low CO₂ footprint per unit.
Composite outlasts steel
GRE and GRP have a documented lifespan of 30–50 years in corrosive environments — versus steel's 15–20 years. Fewer replacements mean lower total resource consumption and climate footprint over the installation's lifetime.
GRP vessels and zero emissions
GRP is 30–40% lighter than aluminium — a direct gain in battery range for fully electric vessels. Brim Explorer and Hyke are concrete examples of a lighter hull giving longer range and supporting the UNESCO zero-emission requirement in the Geirangerfjord.
Reduced POB — fewer helicopter trips
The Oxiblast robot reduces personnel on board by up to 75% per assignment. Fewer helicopter trips mean lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions — in addition to direct HSE gains for the crew.
Low-dig water and wastewater rehabilitation
Trenchless pipe rehabilitation with minimal excavation causes little disruption to green spaces, roads and infrastructure. Third-party approved products for drinking water and wastewater. Shorter construction period and lower total climate footprint.
